The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) will present first works by world-renowned composers at their upcoming performance An Evening of Firsts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. The concert will also feature the YSO debut of Jonathan Carney, Concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

"This performance will showcase first works by well-known composers, including Samuel Barber's First Essay for Orchestra and Tchaikovsky's first symphony Winter Daydreams," said Lawrence Golan, YSO's new music director and conductor. "Tchaikovsky is one of the most passionate, romantic and tuneful of all composers. He wrote so many symphonic works that are recognizable to people all over the world, such as The Nutcracker, the 1812 Overture and Romeo & Juliet to name a few."

The performance will also feature the YSO debut of Jonathan Carney, concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and world-class violinist and conductor. Carney will join YSO in a presentation of one of the most famous concertos of the violin repertoire, Concerto No. 1 in G Minor by Max Bruch.

"We're very excited to offer An Evening of Firsts as the third performance in YSO's 2014-2015 season," said Golan. "I'm really looking forward to building on the energy of our first two performances, which were each presented to a sold-out audience. We hope to fill the seats again, as we plan to provide an unforgettable evening of music and entertainment."

The York Symphony Orchestra will present An Evening of Firsts at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in downtown York on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The new, reduced ticket prices will apply, starting at $9 for the public and $5 for students.
