Violinist Karen Gomyo to Join the Houston Symphony, 4/14

Celebrated violinist Karen Gomyo will join the Houston Symphony for a concert of Mozart and Bruckner at 8 p.m. April 14 and 16 and 2:30 p.m. April 17. Danish guest conductor Thomas Søndergård, who is principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, will lead the program.

Gomyo will display her technical and musical ability with a commanding performance of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 to begin the program. Since receiving a 2008 Avery Fisher Career Grant from Lincoln Center, she has become a highly in-demand soloist with orchestras worldwide and was described by the Chicago Tribune as a "first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity."

Next on the program, Søndergård will conduct Bruckner's Symphony No. 7. Composed through an outpouring of the composer's deep faith, the work is infused with a deep spirituality and is one of Bruckner's best-known pieces of music.
