The Cleveland Orchestra to Perform 25th Annual Star Spangled Spectacular on 7/2

As part of The Cleveland Orchestra's annual free community concert in downtown Cleveland, the Orchestra is invites musicians of all ages to contribute their talents to Make Music!, the Orchestra's initiative to encourage community music-making. Any and all ensembles - from a bell choir to a church choir, or barbershop quartet to a string quartet, garage band, or a marching band - are invited to submit a video. High resolution videos will compete for a spot on the giant Jumbotron in Public Square. You can also submit "Make Music" videos using your favorite video apps (Instagram, Vine, Youtube, Facebook etc.). Be sure to use the hashtag #makemusic to be entered for an awesome Blossom Music Center prize pack!

This is the second year the public has been invited to submit videos. In the two hours prior to the Orchestra's concert at 9:00 p.m. on July 2, select Make Music! videos will be featured on a giant screen on Public Square. (Also in the hours leading up to the Orchestra's concert, a line-up of Cleveland's gourmet food trucks will provide concertgoers with a variety of cuisines.) The 9:00 p.m. concert will be broadcast live on 90.3 WCPN and WCLV 104.9.

Video entries are due by Friday, June 6, 2014. You can also submit Make Music! videos using your favorite video apps (Instagram, Vine, Youtube, Facebook etc.). Be sure to use the hashtag #makemusic to be entered for an awesome Blossom Music Center prize pack!

In the weeks leading up to the Star-Spangled Spectacular, Cuyahoga County Public Library is hosting family events featuring hands-on musical fun with Cleveland Orchestra musicians. Children will learn to sing the National Anthem and march to Stars & Stripes Forever; parents will enjoy free downloads of the music for the July 2 concert and take home a Cleveland Orchestra Activity Book for Making Music at Home. The Cleveland Orchestra, under the direction of Loras John Schissel, will perform in "The Star-Spangled Spectacular brought to you by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture," the Orchestra's 25th annual free community concert in downtown Cleveland, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 9:00 pm, on Public Square.
