Rosie's House Students to Perform Festive Favorites at 'Simple Gifts' Holiday Concert, 12/13

Rosie's House opens the 2014-15 Showcase Concert Season with a free holiday performance featuring students from the music academy for children at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Central United Methodist Church, 1875 N. Central Ave.

Rosie's House students will perform a program of classical and festive favorites including ensemble performances by the Advanced Choir, directed by Christine Kyhn, and the Advanced Mariachi Ensemble, directed by Carlos Castaneda.

The concert also features solo performances on piano and violin. A special arrangement of Simple Gifts will be performed by the Advanced Saxophone Quartet featuring 16-year-old Eli Huerta, who attends Cesar Chavez High School; Jonathan Perez, 17, Camelback High School; David Salcido, 17, South Mountain High School; and Adolfo Flores, 16, Cesar Chavez High School.

Since its founding on March 6, 1996 by Rosie and the late Woody Schurz, Rosie's House, a Music Academy for Children, has provided free music lessons and instruments for thousands of low-income students. Rosie's House is a certified Arizona Charitable Tax Credit agency.

Today, the nonprofit organization offers group and private lessons in string instruments, piano, brass, woodwind instruments and ensemble training in Choir and Mariachi to more than 400 students from low-income homes.

Rosie's House's Great Performance Concert is scheduled at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Steele Indian School Park.
