RADICAL MEETS DEVOTIONAL: FRENCH MASTERWORKS FOR LENT

Church of the Holy Trinity, 213 West 82nd Street Saturday, March 4, 3 pm. Tickets $35 / $25 Students & Seniors

Amor Artis Chorus and Orchestra will perform Lent-inspired motets in the sparkling acoustic of Holy Trinity Church. Conducted by Artistic Director Ryan James Brandau, the program will feature Poulenc's Quatre Motets pour un temps de penitence, Litanies à la Vierge Noire, and Quatre petits prières de Saint François d'Assise; Charpentier's Litanies à la Vierge; and works by Rameau and Manchicourt.

"Though separated by two and a half centuries, Charpentier and Poulenc share a colorful approach to harmony," Maestro Brandau says. "A certain daring with dissonance unites them, especially when setting music for penitential times. I'm delighted to explore these haunting, idiosyncratic voices with Amor Artis and some of New York's finest early music players."
