NPR's FROM THE TOP to Present Live Taping at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall, 2/9

From the Top, the preeminent showcase for young musicians heard weekly on Classical New England 99.5 FM, will tape a radio broadcast on February 9 at 7:30pm at NEC's Jordan Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. The popular NPR program hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley will feature The Amazing performances and captivating personal stories of extraordinary young classical musicians from across the country. 17-year-old cellist Ju Hyun Lee is from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and is a participant in From the Top's year-long arts leadership program, CDAL Boston, where she works with a team of her peers weekly in coaching chamber music to kids at the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Brighton.

17-year-old violinist Chelsea Kim attends Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where she is concertmaster for their symphony and chamber orchestra. She studies music at New England Conservatory in Boston, and also enjoys volunteering in her spare time.

17-year-old soprano Tatum Robertson is a student at Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she has participated in Walnut Hill Summer Opera and NEC Youth Chorale.

14-year-old pianist and composer Tengku Ahmad Irfan, originally from Malaysia, he currently studies with Veda Kaplinsky in the Julliard Pre-College division.

The show will also feature the New England Conservatory Preparatory Piano Trio that includes 15-year-old violinist Kate Arndt, 13-year-old cellist Zlatomir Fung, and 15-year-old pianist Daniel Kim.

This episode will air nationally the week of March 11 and on Classical New England 99.5 FM on March 15 at 11:00am.

What began as a radio experiment in 2000 quickly became one of the fastest growing and most popular weekly classical music programs on public radio. Annually, From the Top's live tapings reach more than 20,000 live audience members of all ages across the United States. In conjunction with its national tour, through From the Top's Center for the Development of Arts Leaders, the Boston-based non-profit offers leadership training to young artists and conducts classroom and community programs leveraging the power of its performers as role models for younger students. In addition, From the Top and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation award $10,000 scholarships to high achieving musicians with limited financial means. The program has invested more than $1.6 million in support for pre-college students since 2005.
