Music Mountain Welcomes Cassatt String Quartet with Ursula Oppens & More This Weekend

America's Oldest Continuing Chamber Music Festival, Music Mountain continues its 86th Anniversary Season tonight, September 12 (6:30pm) with the high-energy folk band Spuyten Duyvil! The music continues with the esteemed Cassatt String Quartet with guest Ursula Oppens, Piano performing Clara Schumann, Mendelssohn, and Schumann on Sunday, September 13 (3PM). Concerts will play each weekend thru September 27!

The Hudson Valley based band, Spuyten Duyvil will electrify the crowd on Saturday evening! Their brand of original and traditional American Roots music blends Olde Time, Blues, Bluegrass, and Folk Rock with a pinch of Punk Rock energy to create a uniquely modern mix. Led by song-writing couple, Mark Miller and Beth Kaufman, this six-piece powerhouse brings barn burning energy to venues throughout the Northeast and Midwest.

Cassatt String Quartet, with guest artist Ursula Oppens, piano, return for another Music Mountain summer! Sunday afternoon's program will include the Music Mountain premiere of Clara Schumann: Romance Variée for Solo Piano in C Major, Op. 3; Mendelssohn: String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 13; and Schumann: Piano Quintet in E-Flat Major, Op. 44.

Acclaimed as one of America's outstanding ensembles, the Manhattan based Cassatt String Quartet has performed throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East, with appearances at Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Theatre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and Maeda Hall in Tokyo. Established in 1985, the quartet has collaborated with a vast array of artists and Pulitzer-prize winning composers and is equally adept at classical masterpieces and contemporary music. With a deep commitment to nurturing young musicians, the Cassatt String Quartet has devoted itself to coaching, conducting sectionals and reading student composers' works, while offering lively musical presentations in music theory, history and composition.

Grammy Award nominated Ursula Oppens has long been recognized as the leading champion of contemporary American piano music. Ms. Oppens has performed with virtually all of the world's major orchestras and has appeared abroad with such symphonies as the Berlin Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Deutsche Symphonie. Ms. Oppens is a Distinguished Professor of Music at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.

Music Mountain is located in Falls Village, Connecticut on Music Mountain Road, where a short scenic drive will bring you to Gordon Hall atop Music Mountain. Free parking and picnic facilities are available. Food, locally baked cookies, coffee, and spring water are available for purchase.

Upcoming quartets scheduled to perform include Borromeo String Quartet (September 20); Amernet String Quartet with Vivek Kamath, Viola and Edward Arron, Cello (September 27).

The Saturday Evening Twilight Series will conclude with Jive By Five (September 19).

Chamber Music Concerts are $35 at the door/$30 in advance. Twilight Series Concerts are $30 at the door/$27 in advance. Children ages 5-18 are admitted FREE for ALL CONCERTS when accompanied by a ticket holder. Saturday Twilight Concerts are at 6:30pm. Chamber Music concerts are at 3pm on Sundays, unless otherwise noted. Group rates and pre season ticket vouchers are available. Discounts apply through participating organizations.
