The Hartt School Community Division (HCD) presents the in-demand, NYC-based JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band tonight, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. Featuring cellist Amy Kang, a former Simsbury resident and HCD alumna, the concert will be held in the Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The performance is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved by calling 860.768.4228or online at hartford.edu/tickets. Attendees may make a suggested donation of $10 to support HCD activities and scholarships.

The JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band, based in NYC, was started in 2008 by bandoneonist and composer Juan Pablo (J.P.) Jofre. After its debut performance at the Public Theatre in NYC in 2008, the group has appeared at Great Performers at Lincoln Center, Celebrities Series of Boston, and Seattle Town Hall, among many others. Along with Jofre, the band comprises violinist Eric Silberger, cellist and HCD alumna Amy Kang, double bassist Ron Wasserman, and pianist Pablo Cafici.

Amy Kang was a student of HCD from 1998 to 2003, studying cello with Eric Dahlin and playing in the Opus '89 orchestra conducted by Dominick Fiore and the Connecticut Youth Symphony (CYS) conducted by Dan D'Addio. Kang lived in Simsbury from age 10 through high school, after which she attended Columbia University in Manhattan and studied cello with Fred Sherry, a teacher Kang calls "one of the most important people in my experience living in New York City." Kang has an affinity for New York and still lives there today.

Prior to the concert, the JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band will present a master class at 4 p.m. in the Alfred C. Fuller Music Center. Interested participants may contact the Hartt Community Division at 860.768.4451 for more information.

Free parking for both the concert and master class is available in parking lot D, across from the auditorium.
