CANTON, OHIO (March 1, 2016) - The Canton Symphony Orchestra's free ConverZations lecture series continues on Monday March 7 at 12:00p.m. as George Dean and James Marron present "Guitars and Classical Music". ConverZations are free public discussions featuring a variety of musicians and music-lovers alike. The series, sponsored by T. K. and Faye A. Heston, is held at noon in the Zimmermann Symphony Center (The Z), 2331 17th St. NW, Canton, on the second Monday of every month from October 2015 to April 2016.
George Dean is a full time music teacher in Canton City Schools at the Arts Academy at Summit. He teaches string orchestra, guitar/guitar ensemble and music technology. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Akron where he studied jazz guitar and music education. James Marron is currently on the faculty of the University of Akron. As co-founder of Marronprater Dance and Music Company, he has composed modern dance music that has been performed across the U.S. and Canada. He has received commissions from GroundWorks Dance Theatre, The Cleveland Repertory Project and The University of Akron Dance Company. He has also held teaching posts at Ashland University, The Cleveland Institute of Music Prep. Dept., Baldwin Wallace Prep. Dept. and the Western Reserve Academy. For the ConverZations discussion, Dean and Marron will present an overview of classical guitar history from the Medieval and Baroque periods through the modern era. The presentation will also cover current trends in preserving the classical guitar art form from an educational perspective. ConverZations attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, and the orchestra provides a light dessert.
