The BSO's second concert in its 40th Anniversary Season features works by Smetana, Respighi, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven. Celebrated cellist Elizabeth Lee joins the orchestra to perform two works for cello and orchestra.

Nature has always been a great inspiration for composers. Vyšehrad is the first of a cycle of symphonic poems paying homage to the people and culture of Bed?ich Smetana's native Bohemia. Likewise, Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, the "Pastoral," takes listeners on a journey through the Germany countryside, past a babbling brook, into a rainstorm, and ends with an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Don't miss the incredible beauty and fearless technique of cellist Elizabeth Lee who will perform two works for cello and orchestra by Respighi and Tchaikovsky.

Cellist Elizabeth Lee was a prize-winner in the Yonkers Enrico Fermi Concerto Competition resulting in a performance with the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also a winner of the University of Texas- Butler School of Music String Concerto Competition, and her performance was nominated by the Austin Critics Table Awards for Best Instrumentalist. Lee has performed in esteemed halls including the Overture Center, Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Conductor Wesley Schulz has been lauded by musicians for his "intensity and emotion" in performances and for his "approachable and inspiring" leadership. Whether in regards to new music, opera, or ballet, Schulz's "passion for music...is contagious."
