March is Chopin Month at The Carnegie Concert Series

One of the unknown treasures of the Hudson Valley is the magnificent Carnegie Concert Series at The Nyack Library. To date the series has presented over 500 classical, jazz, and songwriter performances since 2008. Its yearly schedule of concert presents major jazz and classical artists, and has featured cycles of the complete piano works by Chopin, Debussy, Brahms, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff. The series has been described by the press as "an extraordinarily intimate setting for piano or chamber music" (Huffington Post) and as "One of the most enjoyable concert series in New York.." (Vanity Fair).

The series began in 1982 as the St. Paul's Festival of the Arts, where it presented concerts for over 25 years at St. Paul's Church in Nyack under the direction of its founder, Bill Hargrove, a pianist and graduate of The Juilliard School. In 2007, Hargrove appointed Yashar Yaslowitz as artistic director, and the series relocated to The Nyack Library in January of 2008. In June 2009, the series was renamed to the Carnegie Concert Series, after The Carnegie-Farian Room at The Nyack Library.

The Carnegie-Farian Room, built in 1903, is the original wing of The Nyack Library. Seating just 100, its stone mantle piece, 18 ft ceilings, and wood floors provide the ideal setting and accoustics for intimate music performances. Located 30 miles north of NYC, it has become a cultural destination for the New York Metropolitan area.

This month is all about Chopin.
