William Smith Lucas, an educator and author, has completed his first book "Edna Mae": an endearing and energetic work that grabs hold of the reader with its intricate plot line and demands to be read.

On how he would describe the book and its message, author William Smith Lucas said, "This book is about the relationship between a young white boy and his African-American Nanny in the turbulent 1950's and 60's Georgia. It was a unique relationship where Edna Mae became not only the hired help for the family but she was my mentor, confidant, and friend. It is a collection of memories of the time we spent together and the profound influence she had on my life."

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, William Smith Lucas's poignant memoir is a finely crafted work of prose that is engaging and filled with colorful characters and gorgeous settings.

It's exquisite how the most ordinary moments are made special merely by spending them with loved ones. It's even more extraordinary to have that special connection with someone as you go through the growing pains and slowly become your own man. This connection is made more precious when it is during a time when society is quite conscious of propriety and strongly delineating between the black and the white. Edna Mae was black and a most beautiful individual. She was extra special, their symbol of comfort and protection, the quirky and caring soul that mothered them through the years. And oh how nice to relive the funny, wonderful moments, and how uncaring they were of color. They see only the goodness that emanates, and in the end, that is all that matters. In the end, we're left with the memories of precious moments spent with special people in our lives. And we hold on to them with all our might.

Readers who wish to experience this irreverent work can purchase"Edna Mae" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
