BRAMPTON, Ontario

Author Jessica Tavener bears her heart and soul to readers, revealing her innermost thoughts and feelings, in her new collection of poetry, "When My Heart Speaks" (published by AuthorHouse).

Densely packed, "When My Heart Speaks" contains 50 original poems that touch on a variety of topics. Tavener infuses her life experiences into each poem and focuses mainly on the themes of love and heartbreak, remembering lost loves, dear friends and painful heartbreaks.

Tavener, who says her father is her biggest inspiration, began writing poetry as a teenager and wanted to share her poems with others. She hopes her collection will touch the hearts and minds of readers and remind them that no matter what they are struggling with, they are never alone.

An excerpt from the poem "Depression," featured in "When My Heart Speaks":

"The depression has sunk in deep
It cuts every day like knives
The constrain agony of it all
Weighs on me so heavily"
