Author Veronica Farmer was diagnosed with extensive cancer just days before her wedding, and it was a powerful life scar for her. Her new book, "Made Beautiful by Scars: Real Women's Stories" (published by Balboa Press AU), started with the idea of Farmer sharing how cancer made her more beautiful. She then realized hosts of other women's lives are molded by their own scars.

In this collection, Farmer shares her story and the stories of 22 other women who have lived through trauma that did not break them. The narratives show how the tragedies they encountered grew them, expanded their beauty into a whole new realm and touched many others.

"Each story is unique, raw and powerful. In a digital age where having time to read is squeezed for all of us - reading just one of these stories can leave the reader with a powerful human insight, a gift and the book can be savored story by story," Farmer says. "Instead of burying pain down deep and putting on a smiling face, our writers share all their embarrassment, the raw and real in their stories and then importantly share what they learned and how that could help others going through a similar journey."

From Nicky who suffered the pain of infertility, to Kate who battled melanoma, to Amanda who became a paraplegic, "Made Beautiful by Scars" captures raw stories from Farmer and other women who have faced all types of life scars and been made stronger. Farmer shines a light on the unimaginable strength of women, survivors who have been empowered by adversity and challenge.
