"The Pass" (published by Xlibris AU) chronicles the adventurous and often hilarious experiences of John van Buren. Describing the highs and lows of the first eight years of his farming career in rural New Zealand, it shows his positive outlook towards life as he always strives to get the best out of difficult situations.

Set in Okuku Pass Station in North Canterbury and moving to other places throughout the South Island of New Zealand, the book follows John as he goes about his life of farming, rodeoing, playing rugby and gallivanting around different towns. Expertly told in the manner of a good kiwi bloke, this tale of his adventures promises to get its readers in fits of laughter as they meet with incredibly down-to-earth characters along the way. It gives an insightful glimpse into the tough life of farming as well as the funnier side that comes along with it. Van Buren wants readers to go away with a chuckle at some point during his story knowing as they saddle up to ride their way through the pages.

With honesty, humor and a straight-shooting narrative determined to make it difficult for readers to put down, "The Pass" aims to be an easy-to-read story about the mischief and adventures of a New Zealand farmer.

He went on to work as a stud stock manager in Lyttelton Harbour, owned a successful gorse spraying business, leased a farm in partnership with a mate and then went on to lease the Wheatsheaf Tavern. He gave it all away to go gold mining underground in Australia. He currently lives with his wife and son in the Southwest of Australia.
