Since the 1974 crisis and division, Cyprus has been of major interest to the international community. In his new book, Reshaping of Cyprus: A Two-State Solution, author Halil Ibrahim Salih shares a rare and intimate glimpse into the current political and social situation of the island country. He also examines the problems that continue to plague its people while reinforcing the idea of a two-state nation as a possible solution.

Salih was born in Girne (Kyrenia), Cyprus, and is now an American citizen. As a political scientist he has spent many years studying and writing about the Cyprus political quagmire. Of the purpose behind his current work, he says,

"I began writing Reshaping of Cyprus: A Two-State Solution to enlighten readers of how the unwillingness of both Cypriot and Greek Community Leaders to compromise in reaching an amicable settlement is strengthening the idea of a two-state solution in Cyprus... A historical and political experience is a lesson that can prevent the repetition of past mistakes and the resurgence of new hostilities."

Reshaping of Cyprus: A Two-State Solution provides an in-depth analysis of the troubled relationship between the Cypriot and Greek communities and their inability to reunify the divided island communities since 1974. It also presents readers with an evolving picture of the crisis and, more importantly, the possible strategies to alleviate it. At the heart of Salih's dissertation is a message of hope for peaceful coexistence and a settlement that is mutually beneficial not just to negotiating leaders but the people and the nation as a whole.

Thought-provoking and incisive, Reshaping of Cyprus: A Two-State Solution is both a welcome addition to the ongoing topic of reconciliation in Cyprus and a modern examination of its troubled past and how the same mistakes can be avoided in the future.
