The 2002 book " The Way The Truth and The Life" (published by Trafford Publishing) by Mickey R. Mullen has been selected for inclusion in the Trafford Publishing Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

Mullen had a rocky start to life, delivered by a midwife in a stockyard home because there was no room in a homemade trailer. When he was just 3 years old, he was beaten by his father - a man who was a preacher for four years. Mullen spent his life toiling with his family on two farms during the Great Depression. He graduated from high school despite becoming a debauched binger in the 10th grade. He ended up serving eight years in the U.S. Navy and buying three businesses and leasing two.

Mullen was influenced by the turmoil of the '60s and what he learned in the childhood church services he attended, all the time wondering if religion was real. Mullen describes the day he first went - unenthusiastically - to a church service. He sat sour-faced in the back of a Protestant church, his arms folded in apathy.

"A woman asked me, 'Do you love Jesus?' I just looked at her and said no," Mullen says.

At the altar call, "feeling the Spirit of convictions," he went to the altar. He asked God to help him, after years of drinking, smoking, swearing and sex for sport. After two months of going to church on Sunday nights, he left the church one Sunday night, and while on a payphone at a gas station, he felt like he'd been hit by lightning, which is when he realized the Spirit of Genesis had given him a new heart. Thirty days later he received a new Spirit in the mouth as Jesus did and fasted three days and nights. He then received John's baptism, just as Jesus had.

Mullen, finding out "religion is real," wrote his memoir in order to show people the way he received redemption sanctioned by the Holy Spirit. He explains that all people can, when lost, be turned around unexpectedly. He also says that the Bible is flawed based on the fact that he says Matthew said to go by what came out of the mouth of Jesus for redemption.

Although he has changed his old ways, Mullen is no stranger to controversy. He uses his perspective as a Christian who has intensely studied the King James Bible of 1611 for years to offer warnings to other Christians to prevent them from going down the wrong path.

Mullen explains to readers that Jesus died for "the Word" he brought, but that he brought it in parables, speaking allegorically and sanctioned by God the Father. Mullen says all of the Word is not meant to be believed literally, but sparingly. He also explains his belief that Paul and his disciple were false prophets.
