Author David B. Wall desired to write a book that highlights how following Jesus brings true success. Wall wanted the book to be especially impactful for men, so he used an analogy many men are familiar with, football. "The Ultimate Scoring Drive: Defeating Eleven Barriers to a Victorious Life" (published by WestBow Press) discusses barriers to real success that all men face and how faith in Jesus defeats these enemies.

Wall compares the journey of a man's faith to a football scoring drive, with the reader positioned as the primary ball-carrier. Eleven barriers to victory are portrayed as opposing team members who tackle men and block their path. These enemies include: fear, suffering, pride, impurity, passivity, busyness, perfectionism, self-focus, isolation, death, and past injustices. Although the journey in the book takes place on a football field, Wall states that it really takes place within the hearts, souls and minds of men.

Men want ways in which they can have greater significance, peace, freedom, joy, and hope.
