WASHINGTON, N.J.

Author Dan Sharma learned from owning a New York City construction company that every move comes with a cost, risk and benefit. He employs his experience in his new novel, " The Illusion" (published by Partridge India), which depicts a criminal on a quest to find the true meaning of life as he runs from the law.

"The Illusion" portrays the vicissitudes of protagonist Danny's life as his greed leads him into a life of crime. Questionable business practices in his construction firm come to light when a school building walk-bridge he built collapses. After being indicted for contributing to the death of schoolchildren through his use of inferior materials and a fake inspection, Danny flees to Burma via Thailand to escape the law.

As Danny hides from law enforcement, he winds up discovering himself. He starts on the path towards setting things right as he deals with the many conflicts and choices he has to make; his new insights even help another fugitive turn his life around.

Written to read like a reality show, "The Illusion" features a fast-paced plot while expressing deeply nuanced and heartfelt emotions. As Danny deals with adversity on his quest for redemption, Sharma touches on the illusion of perceived notions of truth and happiness through the human elements of ambition, greed, fear and compassion.
