Ronald C. Smith Releases WHAT BLACK AMERICANS MUST DO NOW

ST. LOUIS, MO

"While there has been some progress socially and economically for relatively few black people, the larger masses of black people have seen little or no progress," says Ronald C. Smith, an educator who dares to fight discrimination and advocate for equality in America. With his new book, he outlines "What Black Americans Must Do Now" (published by Xlibris) in order to transcend the injustices of society and attain a better future.

Smith outlines the underlying reasons for the continued institutional racism against black people in America, the lingering legacy of slavery, which brought black Africans into the country in large numbers. He then suggests methods for proactively reducing the effects of discrimination, principally by raising a new generation with hope and by becoming a political and economic force within black communities around the country.

"Living in this country as a black man for over 70 years and observing the systemic discrimination against my people," was what inspired Smith to pen this moving piece of social commentary. He identifies modern practices that have replaced the old Jim Crow laws and lynching, enumerating the mass incarcerations, police shootings, unfair court systems and poor education in inner cities. He calls on African-Americans to use their purchasing power and expertise to assist one another in overcoming these devastating practices, which stem from prevailing white privilege and endanger young black men across the country.

The cornerstones of "What Black Americans Must Do Now" are knowledge of the past and how the past informs the present-why historical information is a necessary ingredient of self-actualization for black people in America. This is a call for action to counteract the discrimination they face in their lives.

Dr. Ronald C. Smith worked as an educator for over 42 years in public schools and community colleges. He has unique first-hand perspectives of American life from Alaska to Tennessee and from Washington State to Baltimore County. He earned undergraduate and master's degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. He has three adult children, twin sons and one daughter, and a grandson. Smith is retired. He presently lives in St. Louis, Mo.
