The native Alabaman talks the talk. This is done with pride and knowledge of what he is, a way of being as an African American. In other words, he is a full and responsible partner in the continuing vibrant cultural exchange between the rest of America and Black Culture that has contributed greatly to the American language, music, arts and culture. Simone De typifies the highly educated intelligentsia that has cannily navigated the explosive issues of the day with their music and their manhood (their attitude and what they present to the world at large). He shows the beginnings of his education, his maturation into a man who is truly open to the world of ideas and his fashioning his great talent as a musical artist into the vehicle for communicating beautifully to the soul-hungry of the American nation.
