The story of the American Civil Rights Movement is made up of thousands of individual experiences, where love of family, God and country was tested in ways never seen in society before.

Inspired by his own experiences as a young Navy flight trainee in a 1960s 'sundown town', debut author J.J. Zerr brings readers one of those stories in Sundown Town Duty Station, the fictional story of the dramatic racism-tinged events surrounding one couple's lives in 1968 Mississippi.

Readers will gain a new understanding of the social issues affecting America during the Civil Rights Era from the perspective of a cast of characters caught between the desire to protest institutional justice and the need to preserve a stable social structure in a military town.

"My hope is that by reading this book, Americans of all ages will be made more aware of the struggles our nation has gone through to get where we are today," says Zerr. "Sundown Town Duty Station serves as a reminder of the lasting effects of the Civil Rights Movement on every aspect of our society."
