Northshire Bookstore of Manchester, Vermont will host a seminar and reception today, November 8th for local Vermont authors, Deborah Mackin and Matthew Harrington, and their recently released leadership book, Survival of the Hive: 7 Leadership Lessons from a Beehive.

Leaders can inspire and engage, or they can disappoint and disillusion their followers. Survival of the Hive: 7 Leadership Lessons from a Beehive renews a sense of urgency in the need to develop key leadership traits within companies in order to survive. Investment in leaders and their development dropped dramatically after the recession as businesses and companies cut budgets. Mackin and Harrington use the bee colony and specifically Zync, the main character and queen-in-waiting, as an entertaining fable to help remind leaders of the importance of developing their skills. The 7 leadership lessons provide examples (from both bees and humans) on ways to build accountability, communicate more effectively, engage and motivate the workforce, and sustain loyalty and commitment. Included at the end of each chapter is Reflections for Today's Leaders, as well as Group Discussion Questions.

"We're excited to be partnering with the Northshire Bookstore for this event," stated Deborah Mackin. "We haven't really celebrated the success and publication of the book yet so we're using this as a celebratory launch party as well as an event to talk about the key leadership messages of the book. We hope our local community can come out and join in the celebration with us."

The Northshire Bookstore event will start at 5pm with a presentation by the mother and son authors followed by a Q&A session. After the presentation both authors and illustrator will take part in a book-signing reception with light hors d'oeuvres served. The event will end at 7pm.

For more information on the event or to register please call Mary Allen of the Northshire Bookstore at 802-362-3565 x154. There is a $5 entry fee that will be applied towards attendees purchase of the Survival of the Hive book.
