A new online press campaign brings Richard Johnston's 2009 novel, "The Circle Broken" (published by Trafford Publishing), to a global audience. The story takes readers to 17th-century Canada, where a Wendat First Nations maiden girl changes the life of a French boy who is on his first mission for explorer Robert Cavelier de La Salle.

Seventeen-year-old Remy Moisson is a French peasant who has signed on for La Salle's expedition to find the mouth of the Mississippi River. A chance encounter with Tikanaka, the Wendat girl, leads to Remy's first sexual encounter. Entranced by the occurrence, Remy is torn between his desire for Tikanaka and his desire for adventure with La Salle.

Trysts with Tikanaka deepen Remy's attachment and just as he is beginning to fall in love, he leaves her to join La Salle's voyage. Upon his return, Remy learns that Tikanaka's tribe has been attacked and massacred by the Iroquois. Refusing to believe that his headstrong maiden is dead, Remy begins a search for her, knowing that he can never give up his quest to find the girl who stole his heart.

"The Circle Broken" presents readers with a historically accurate depiction of 17th century North America during a clash of civilizations. Johnston hopes his work familiarizes readers with the concept that love can triumph over religious bigotry.
