Dogs are often referred to as man's best friend as a result of the unbreakable bond they share with their owners. Dogs seem to provide unconditional love to their masters. Author Karen Wilson shares her memories of a special relationship with a golden retriever in her new memoir "Dakota Gold" (published by iUniverse)

Wilson describes the adventures of a puppy who seems to brighten the day of anyone he encounters. He grows larger every day and befriends Wilson's other dog, Chester. Rusty, as Wilson comes to call the puppy, has adventures involving rope swings, buckets, leaf piles, snowballs, and even a cow.

Wilson recalls her first encounter with Rusty in this excerpt from "Dakota Gold":

"I watched as this little tyke came running from the group of puppies as fast as his little legs would carry him. He was wearing a red ribbon and he was the most adorable bundle of golden softness I had ever seen-and he was running directly to me! When he reached me, he tried to jump up. 'It's me! It's me, Mama!'"

Through Rusty's mischievous behavior, Wilson learns an important lesson from her dog: live every day to the fullest with the people you love.
