Author Debra Gilcrease is the mother of Bobby whom "Hi, this is Bobby" (published by Xlibris) is about. Bobby was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome at the age of 12 months. Since his passing in 2012 at the age of 25, Gilcrease has dedicated herself to write about what an extraordinary child, young man and young adult he became.

"My Son and his bravery inspired me on every level possible," said Gilcrease.

"Hi, this is Bobby" is written from Bobby's perspective. Throughout the book, he narrates his childhood experiences as he becomes aware of his disabilities and how he is able to overcome the challenges he faces with excitement, joy and happiness.

"Young children are very curious about other children or people in general that are different from them. They want to understand why," said Gilcrease. "I think that with Bobby's narration of his experiences from a child's perspective other children will gain the understanding of why there is diversity and that it's ok."

Told from a child's outlook, "Hi, this is Bobby" is meant to help parents of disabled children and siblings see that, although someone has a disability, they are still no different than anyone else. It is Gilcrease's hope that, in writing this book, her readers will realize that a young boy, although he had a severe disability, was able to grow and experience excitement, happiness and joy.
