The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) announced the release of a second free eBook in "The Pest Detectives" series that teaches children about bug and rodent biology and the pest management profession. The digital book, "The Uninvited Houseguest," is written by Jo-Lynne Shane, author of the popular lifestyle blog Musings of a Housewife, and is illustrated by Colleen Madden.

"The Uninvited Houseguest" features the adventures of 9-year-old Nate as he and his family discover they have a mouse in the house! Luckily, Pest Detective Millie and her father, a pest professional, come to the rescue to solve this pest mystery and determine the secret behind their pest predicament.

"We are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to teach children about the fascinating world of entomology and biology, and the integral role pest professionals play in keeping our families and homes safe from the property and health risks posed by household pests," said Missy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for the NPMA. "This new chapter in "The Pest Detectives" series is an educational and entertaining tale envisioned and brought beautifully to life by our author, Jo-Lynne Shane, and illustrator, Colleen Madden."

"Writing a children's book was never on my radar, but when the NPMA reached out to me about this project, I thought it sounded like too much fun to pass up," said Shane. "I enjoyed taking the character Millie, so lovingly created by Susan Carraretto, and giving her a friend to help her solve her pest mysteries. The boy I created (and his dog) somewhat resemble my own son and our family pet, and I loved watching them come alive through Colleen's illustrations. I hope the story I created will be both a learning tool and a fun tale to be enjoyed by children across the country."

The eBook is available for free on the NPMA website, PestWorld.org and in the iBookstore. It is also available in the Amazon Kindle Store and the Barnes and Noble Nook store.
