Swan Hill, Australia

Mental health social worker, psychotherapist and author Elizabeth Mcdonald adds to her growing collection of guided therapy books for children with "My Body Book: About Me and How I Can Keep My Body Safe" (published by Xlibris AU), a protective behavior and skill-building book for avoiding and recognizing risks of sexual abuse.

Inspired by her work with abused children, Mcdonald guides parents and children through a series of activities that are intended to help them learn protective skill-building, awareness of the risk of abuse and how to create boundaries. She follows this up with a special relaxation activity with slow breathing and guided visualization that she says may be used to help a child relax.

"Abuse is a constant concern," Mcdonald says. "This book will appeal to readers because it builds protective skills for at-risk children."

Writing in a non-threatening manner, Mcdonald uses her education and experience working with kids who were abused to help other at-risk children - as well as those who may or may not have already experienced some type of abuse. She desires to help all children learn how to: recognize risk factors, remove themselves from uncomfortable situations and talk to a trusted adult if they are experiencing abuse.
