Seventy-five-year-old Jake Kaplan is learning that a full head of hair, the ability to drive at night and a pension elevate him to "most eligible male" status with the senior ladies he encounters. After he loses his wife of 50 years to cancer, he attempts to dip his toe into the world of dating, complete with kisses and sleepovers. The sometimes-hilarious results are revealed in this new novel released by Dog Ear Publishing.

"You Never Know" tells Jake's story as he joins a senior center close to his new studio apartment in Manhattan, gradually becoming more social as he works to rejoin the land of the living. He is grateful for his daughter Celia and son-in-law, Mark, but they are no substitute for companionship with people of his generation. Women who turn out to be clingy or are afraid to ride the subway pale in comparison to his beloved Freida, but after a series of missteps, he finds he is drawn to a wonderful lady. Fate, unfortunately, has another plan for him, and disaster strikes.

A trip with other seniors to a Catskill Retreat leads Jake to new friends - and lovers - but fate once again plays a role. Instead of doing what's expected, he falls in love with the one person he never imagined had feelings for him.

Kirkus Reviews calls the novel a "touching tale of families and aging ... (an) engaging tale of life." Author Marvin Goldman brings an era back to life, recalling mid-1970s New York City with vivid descriptions of people and places against the backdrop of a heartwarming romance. Goldman, who lives in Boynton Beach, Fla., also wrote the books "My Years in the Womb" and "Big City Gems."
