EAST ISLIP, N.Y.

Martin E. Palagonia has been a published poet for more than 25 years, with much of his work focusing on the complexities of the human experience. As a former New York state EMT and medic for the Navy and Marines, Palagonia is no stranger to the fragility of life. These experiences laid the foundation for his new book, "Conversing with the Soul: (Short Stories and Messages for the Human Condition)" (published by AuthorHouse), which guides readers to better understanding their souls.

Palagonia believes every human being is a miracle. With this in mind, he views the human experience as one that transcends the time people spend as physical beings on Earth. Because of this, he says it is pertinent that people have a strong connection with their souls.

"Conversing with the Soul" features various messages and stories concerning life, death and mortality. Palagonia hopes his book will help readers rethink their positions in life and where they stand with their souls.

An excerpt from "Conversing with the Soul":

"This journey we call 'life' is a different yet similar event for each of us, it's not a test you can cheat on, or even one which you can grasp in its totality.... it is far too big. All any of us can hope to do is learn enough about ourselves to know who we are deep down inside and try to improve as a conscious and hopefully enlightened being as we travel down our life's path."
