ROCHESTER, N.Y.

In 2013, Louis R. Eltscher scrutinized the German men who attempted to assassinate Hitler during World War II in his history book, "Traitors or Patriots?: A Story of the German Anti-Nazi Resistance" (published by iUniverse). Following his marketing campaign in 2013 and 2014, Eltscher's book will once again be embarking on a publicity venture, this time in Frankfurt, Germany, at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair.

"This book is a classic morality tale," Eltscher says, "a story of the eternal struggle between good and evil. It speaks of those who resisted that evil and of those who succumbed to it." He examines four of the conspirators, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Claus von Stauffenberg, who was dramatized by actor Tom Cruise in the Hollywood movie "Valkyrie."

An excerpt from "Traitors or Patriots?":

"These men surrendered neither to the blandishments of military victory nor to the despair of failure. Their goal - the overthrow of Nazi rule - was simple, although extremely difficult to achieve. Their failure to reach that goal is irrelevant. Their singleness of purpose in its pursuit is very relevant."

"Unlike most other books on the subject of the anti-Nazi resistance, this is a story of the German resistance that is written within the broader context of German and European history," Eltscher explains. "It explains the reasons for the attitudes and behavior of both the resistance leaders and the German people themselves."
