North Attleboro, Mass.

In his latest novel "Devil's Paintbrush: One's Past Doesn't Predetermine One's Future" (published by Trafford Publishing) author K.L. Arthur has created a true-to-life narrative of a combat soldier, decorated in war, who struggles to defeat the effects of his Vietnam service and the trauma of his earlier life.

In the relative safety of the country's top post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) clinic, Ken Callahan, a combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient, relives his traumatic experiences from the Vietnam War. In doing so, he and the entire PTSD community within the Veterans Administration (VA) are stunned to discover that Vietnam was not the source of his mental and emotional disorder. Callahan's problems had started much earlier in his life as a child growing-up in a violent, sexually abusive home.

Unraveling and then fixing such a complex problem proves to be as impactful for the PTSD community as the veteran, with no one escaping with their minds and emotions intact unless the essence of a "Devil's Paintbrush" can be unleashed.

"Over a quarter-million Iraq and Afghanistan veterans treated by the VA have PTSD," Arthur says, but is careful to remind readers this disorder affects more than just veterans. "Every day, family members, friends and co-workers of PTSD sufferers (both military and civilian) are also adversely affected in many ways."

"Devil's Paintbrush" has been selected for inclusion in the Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.
