Jim Clayton Releases THE CLEAN SLATE

Putting into practice his views on the environment, war and finance, author Jim Clayton's new book "The Clean Slate" (published by Balboa Press) shows readers the looming possibility of a world torn by chaos.

Clayton grew up in a rural town on the north island of New Zealand. Throughout his childhood, he was exposed to various agricultural practices like farming, vineyard cultivation and gardening.

From this exposure to, and appreciation for, living things, Clayton writes about the struggles mankind imposes upon nature by way of war, technological advancement and industrial progress. He hopes readers take away a newfound appreciation for the earth, along with a lessened desire to react negatively toward others.

"Every chapter has some form of honest advice on how to survive this chaotic world, relating to nutrition, finance, coping with adversity and cultivation," Clayton says.

An excerpt from "The Clean Slate":

"I remember my dad coming home one day from work just before he lost his job. He had been given a huge kingfish by a workmate and he called me to come and deliver sections of this huge fish, he began cutting up.
'Here, he said, 'take this piece down to the vicarage'.
Childlike I asked, 'Why are you giving the first piece to the parson?'
'Because they give the whole street apples from their large home orchard,' he replied.
That is where we learnt reciprocation, be kind, help others, especially those that help others as well as those who are unable to do so."

Jim Clayton was born in 1917 to English parents who settled in the village of Taradale, New Zealand. The district was completely rural, with many small dairy farms, orchards, vineyards and Chinese market gardeners. Such an environment resulted in his life being strongly attached to the earth and nature.
