"Surviving the Habit: A Nicotine Addict's Guide to Quitting Smoking" is a book that provides a motivational, educational and comprehensive treatment plan employing a gradual quit method to help people become smokeless survivors. It is user friendly and easy to understand. Substance abuse specialist Janice Riley began developing these concepts in 1999 when she started to teach people how to quit smoking as part of their mental health or substance abuse therapy.

The program was developed out of the science surrounding nicotine dependency that is the nicotine crave cycle. Miss Riley designed six narrative chapters each with a corresponding workbook that will help tobacco users conquer their craving cycle and quit smoking for good. Major highlights of the treatment plan include: Building the desire to quit, getting familiar with nicotine dependency /tobacco use disorder, developing a quit thinking process, a food intake formula for smokers to avoid gaining weight, and a relapse prevention plan using five unique concepts and tools for long term recovery, which include spirituality concepts.

"Surviving the Habit: A Nicotine Addict's Guide to Quitting Smoking," is fun and exciting allowing readers to focus on themselves, their needs, their unique crave cycle. People will not be sold short by only getting a personal narrative about the author's own journey of becoming substance free and then told to quit cold turkey. These methods have been shaped and analyzed based on treatment results and success outcomes. Miss Riley has created colorful, metaphoric tag topics such as gathering of leaves of truth and building a tobacco avenue, and other curious concepts to appeal to nicotine dependents of all adult ages and caliber. The book embraces the attitude for acknowledging the pain of recovery from addictions, confronting the fears of change and persevering despite adversity from others.
