One day, after cutting his neighbour Cully Waugh's grass, Cully offered to pay him with something other than money. He offered him the gift of a hardcover book that detailed how six people gathered in Halifax and then set off on foot across Canada in search of work. It was at that moment that the dream took hold, a dream that was to remain in the youngster's heart forever.

That young boy - he was 12 at the time - was Hadley Burns Jr. Today, at 63 years of age and with a lifetime of adventure under his belt, Hadley Burns Jr. has become an author. His newly released, true-to-life book, entitled Just Because I Had a Dream, tells the biographical tale of how that gift of literature from a neighbour literally transformed Burns' outlook on life and living. In August 1974, twelve years after first reading that remarkable story of the walk across Canada, Burns set off on an epic journey of his own - a cross-Canada, west-to-east bicycle ride from British Columbia and back home to Nova Scotia.

Burns' life has been like that. He's been a grass-cutter, a farm labourer, a school teacher, a factory worker - and that only scratches the surface of his working life. He's been twice married, with four children from his first marriage and with two daughters with current wife Saundra. And at heart, he's a restless wanderer, now living in Ontario.

Just Because I Had a Dream is the true, straight-from-the-hip tale of a man who has lived a rich, full life, taking advantage of every minute - and every opportunity - that his God has offered him. Hadley Burns Jr. is truly a man of faith, a man who believes in destiny and the wonder of the world. He has known adventure - and he has felt love, grief, pain and joy. Just Because I Had a Dream lays out Burns' life in complete and absolute detail, a testament to his love of life, of God, and of his fellow man.

Burns is a born story-teller - and it shows. He laughed when he wrote this book. He cried tears of sorrow as he wrote this book - all because he wants the reader to feel the depth of emotion that has characterized his own life. Most of all, he wants his readers to feel as though he is speaking directly to them, straight from his heart, his mind and his soul. His true-to-life story, Just Because I Had a Dream, succeeds by any and every measure.
