Persephone is a goddess without a title, even though her relatives include the Lord of Light, Goddess of Wisdom and the Queen of the Gods. She's only known as the daughter of her mother, something that leaves her feeling frustrated. She longs to escape Mount Olympus to discover who she truly is.

Hades is the god of the Underworld, and when family obligations force him to attend a festival, he sees Persephone and knows what he's looking at: a vibrant, young goddess aching to break free. Passions swirl, violence erupts and the fate of the world is at stake as gods and goddesses let loose in Erin Kinsella's "Olympian Confessions: Hades and Persephone" (published by iUniverse).

"I've loved mythology since I knew it existed, but I was always frustrated by the misogynistic tendencies and how characters, more specifically, women, were typecast in a singular role with no deviation from that facet of existence," Kinsella explains.

"Olympian Confessions" is a reimagining of these characters in which Kinsella offers a woman, Persephone, a voice in a canon where women are often little more than a plot device. Ultimately, Kinsella says, "I just want (my readers) to enjoy the experience and get them to consider another perspective in the ancient stories."
