Ways of Our Grandfathers (published by Trafford Publishing) is a non-fiction book which describes Ojibwa culture and traditions from the pre-contact through the early contact periods with Europeans.

Author David D. Plain aims to record an extensive knowledge of Ojibwa culture for posterity. His new publication will appeal Native Americans in general, Ojibwa readers in particular and anyone else interested in cultural anthropology. This is quite useful in building bridges between Native Americans and the much wider North American society. It is written in an academic style and could be used as a textbook for a native studies course at the high school or even college level.

With a Native American perspective, Ways of Our Grandfathers also gives anecdotes. It helps the interested readers in understanding the Idle-No-More movement, shedding light into the ways and traditions of the Native Americans. This book explores characteristics of political structure, worldview, dress and lifestyle including some food recipes, games and stories as well as providing an explanation of totems and wampum. It also describes economic life including trade and hunting, fishing and sugar camps. The final chapter deals with language and religion including death customs as well as traditional medicines.
