Education may be customary to a privileged few; to the marginalized ones, higher education is but a dream that seldom materializes. But sometimes, it does. Denial from the education is a wall so sturdy many thinks it would not come down, but to author Avis Noel, that wall came crumbling down. The resilience that she was given is far greater than the struggles that kept pulling her from where she ought to be.

"My Head Held Up High" (published by Xlibris) is a heart wrenching story of the author as a woman who lived with domestic violence for close to three decades. Due to a promise made to parents in her early life, she strives for education and epitomizes her achievement as a Doctor of philosophy. In general, she describes her success as a mother as it is her five children who gave her purpose and thanks her abuser for making her realize her full potential.

This book touches on issues one deal with on a daily basis like education, health, immigration, war, motherhood and religion It will appeal to abused women in both developing and developed worlds, to women studies nationally and internationally, to women dealing with issues of terminal illness, to people who have been traumatized by war, dealt with poverty, fought for education, immigrants in different parts of the world and to all people who strive for equality on a personal level.

Inspiring and enlightening, "My Head Held Up High" reflects a story of survival for a woman who made it through the storm of her marriage and health.
