Author Solutions, LLC, the world leader in supported self-publishing, announced Thursday that seven titles have been selected as Kirkus Reviews' Best Indie Books of 2013. The titles honored were:

  • "The Manual for the Modern Mystic" by Rio Olesky (iUniverse)
  • "The Quran: With or Against the Bible" by Ejav Naqvi (iUniverse)
  • "Toco" by Vivian Jack (Xlibris)
  • "Riding the Tiger" by Milena Banks (iUniverse)
  • "Stretchers Not Available" by John Rickett (AuthorHouse UK)
  • "The Projection Room" by Carol Golembiewski (Abbott Press)
  • "The Powers that Be" by Gordon Utgard (Trafford)

Each book has been awarded with the Kirkus Star from Kirkus Reviews, which has been acknowledged as one of the most trusted and authoritative voices in book discovery since 1933.

"We're pleased that seven of our titles met the high standards set by Kirkus Reviews for receiving this honor," said Keith Ogorek, Author Solutions senior vice president of marketing. "Our authors continue to distinguish themselves with their fine works, and all should be proud of this accomplishment."

Kirkus' Indie program was started in 2005, when the editors wanted to expand their coverage to include the fastest-growing segment in the book industry-self-publishing. The program gives self-published authors the opportunity to earn critical acclaim from one of the most prestigious reviews in publishing.
