Alex Garrett, a father, sports fan, outdoors enthusiast, devoted writer and author, has completed his new book "Plan B": a gripping and potent memoir that aims to help the families of those who have committed suicide or families of those with a mental illness.

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Alex Garrett's book seeks other alternatives to the current medical options in helping those mentally instable patients.

Garrett explains, "My book is about helping people who are in the same situation I was in and also for those that want help. When my wife refused to get help for her problems, I had very few places to turn to. Whether it was depression, mental illness, substance abuse, lack of employment or a combination of a few that helped her decide to take her life; there is always help and another option to attempting suicide. Her actions not only affected my life, but our son and our families too. It is my hope to change the way society allows someone to take their life or the life of others before their own. My life experience through all of this should be able to help other people. There has to be something we can do for a person that requires more than a seventy-two hour hold for a mental evaluation. Some people, like my wife, only become angry and vindictive when they return home when after not being in control of their surroundings. They take it out on their family and have a tendency to make you feel like you have to walk on eggshells in your own home. It also affects their relationship with co-workers when they don't know what mood the person is in each day. A change in the laws to help the loved ones of someone who doesn't want to change their current situation to make life better for them and their family in the long run can't be that hard to accomplish. It is my sincere hope that I can be of assistance in such an endeavor. If enough people step up, we can get a law of substance accomplished."
