SHEFFIELD, England

Author Chicamba takes readers back to pivotal moments in Angolan history with his new book, "Angola Light of Poet" (published by Xlibris UK). Through prose and poetry, he elaborates and explains the 1975 Alvor agreement and the conflicts that raged in the years before and after Angola's national liberation.
Before Alvor, the nation was a warzone as revolutionary movements fought against the colonial power of Portugal. With Alvor, Portugal granted the nation independence, but decolonization only resulted in the beginning of a new conflict, a civil war between the former revolutionaries that led to the involvement of foreign powers and Cold War factions - such as apartheid South Africa, Cuba, the United States and the Soviet Union.

Chicamba's writing reveals the reality of what happened to his country during that time. He portrays someone watching what the Angolans were doing, allowing readers to witness historic events - triumphs and tragedies alike. The author portrays the suffering of Angolans, particularly Bantus. He shows the machinations of revolutionary leaders, like Antonio Agostinho Neto, Holden Alvaro Roberto and Jonas Malheiro Savimbi, who signed the Alvor agreement in 1975 to free Angola from the Portugese, and how they fought each other over control of the nation in the ensuing years.

With his poetry, Chicamba shows the next generation where they came from, where they are and where they are going. He ensures that history will not be forgotten, by remembering and sharing, he illuminates memories of the past with "Angola Light of Poet."
