Straight from filming the second series of The Family Law, rising television star Kimie Tsukakoshi returns to Brisbane to debut an electric new performance work HANAKO.

Kimie plays the role of Hanako, a young Japanese girl who fights to break out of the past and free herself from the control of her creators.

HANAKO is the kind of show where anything can happen. Some of the characters are real figures, historical and now, and some are famous myths drawn from contemporary music, fashion and culture. Everyone has been rebooted into a neon-lit, east-west future world where past and present, fact and fiction collide in a mash-up of theatre, anime, fashion, martial arts, boxing, and a live DJ.

As Kimie says, "The opportunity to come back to Brisbane and to work on an edgy play about Japan and Australia has been an incredible experience, especially the opportunity to work with senior artists who bring such mastery to the process."

As co-creator, director and performer Caroline Dunphy says, "HANAKO is an experience as much as a show. It's culturally infused and gives audiences a chance to feel as if they've shifted to another world without leaving Brisbane."

HANAKO's world premiere takes place as part of the 2016 Brisbane Festival in the Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse from 13 - 17 September 2016. Join us, drink sake and be a part of the electric Belloo experience that is HANAKO.

Creators: Caroline Dunphy and Katherine Lyall-Watson
