I heard a rumour about it. Is it true?

It opens tomorrow. Where have you been?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Harsh on my part, apologies. Hilarious but harsh. I've been awake for two days. Anyway...

Anastasia on Broadway has been discussed to DEATH on here. There are no announced plans.

It would be gross if she "came" on Broadway.

Wrong, sir. Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy - "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained," et cetera, et cetera..."Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum," et cetera, et cetera..."Memo bis punitor delicatum"! It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!

Sadly, no plans yet. an amature production may be getting statred in Chicago. If they do take it to Broadway I think Sutton should take the role. (For those who think Lea Salonga would be good, yes, but she didn't do the voice in the movie, it was Liz Calaway)

They did an "On Ice" version a while back, isn't that enough?

Hopefully not. Just like Disney's "Pocahontas", it's a travesty of a re-write of history

TWSFan, Bartok(sp?) was a big rodent costume, and there was a lot of skaters just sitting in rotating chairs and benches as the soundtrack was played.

I take it when you ask if "Anastasia" is coming to Broadway you don't mean the incredible film with Ingrid Bergman and Helen Hayes, but the stupid , insipid anamated one. Oh, yes, by all means lets have ANOTHER recreation of a cartoon on Broadway to really show us that Broadway is a place for anything but good thought provoking theatre.

There has already been an original musical about Anastasia called the Anastasia Affaire, written by Robert Wright (lyrics), Sergei Rachmaninoff (music), Guy Bolton, and Jerome Chodorov (book). So before we go off making movies into overly commercial stage shows, lets see if that ones any good and let Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens write new shows.

gimme 10-15 years to rewrite the whole thing, keep the few good aspects from the movie, write new music, make it slightly more historically accurate ( not too accurate though. Otherwise there would be no heroine) and the answer will be YES!
