Hello all. I have a 1995--1996 newspaper clipping of a quote made by Patti LuPone. "Don't Cry For Me, ex-Evitas" "Evita" the flick-- and all the hype-- has come and gone and Madonna has moved on, but there seems to be some lingering bitterness on the part of Patti LuPone, who won a Tony playing Argentina's first lady on stage, but was not in the running for the screen role. Asked whether she saw the movie, she said that she caught some excerpts here and there. She pronounced it "very disappointing. If it had been as electrifying as I know it was onstage, then I'd run to go see it. But it looks like a boring piece of sh*t, frankly. I'm sorry, but that what it looks like." Discuss amongst yourselves. from Roman in Austin, Texas
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
For one of the most exciting and politically driven musicals of that decade, it produced a mediocre and poorly sung movie. Madonna, though much better here then in other movies, was just all wrong.

The movie is really, boring. Again, I don't think Lupone's voice could be easily accepted by a non-theaterical audience. No matter who old she is. My siblings laugh whenever I listen to her on the OBC.
I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.
I enjoyed watching the film, even though I'm sure it was better on stage with Patti LuPone. However, I did feel like the film was a long music video. The whole "looking at the camera" thing was odd.
I've seen both the stage and the film, and to me, they are equally just as good. The stage show has moments that, of course, cannot be captured on film, and vice versa. Personaly, i think Madonna was good, although she did not come off with the strength and power that the real Eva did. She actually played her a little bit weak - even still, this is one of her better movies. I thought the cinematography and costumes were also brilliant. Of course, I was lucky enough to see this on a Ginormous screen, and the music was REALLY loud - which I love - so, yes, I really did like this film. Patti LuPone can take her Tony (that she'll never win again) and shove it up her @$$
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
I loved the movie. Madonna was also too old for the film but she was cast because she could sell the film in an international market. Madonna playing a teen Eva was really difficult to watch, but overall I love the film immensely. Antonio was a revelation in it and so fantastic. Jonathan Pryce is great as well. I think the film works because it is like a music video. Parker knew that Madonna was so captivating in her music videos, but when she spoke she lost people in her acting. Therefore, Madonna did not speak in the film. I think the film worked much better than RENT did.

Patti was not speaking for me and actually I characterize what Patty said as "sour grapes" from a disgruntled diva. Look at Daphne Rubin Vega for etiquette on how to be gracious and professional when put in an awkward professional situation regarding being cast or not cast.

and I'm sure when they film Sunset Boulevard (God forbid!) she won't be seeing that, either...
AND Patti has more bitterness towards Webber than Madonna, which is probably why she hasn't seen the movie.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

The costumes were very beautiful and It was neat to see all of the violence and explosions in some of the shots. I agree that Patti should have seen it before she judged it, although she wasnt cast, it was her first major success.

Madonna was great in that role and had a huge amount of passion in her performance. Her voice was on top form to and she nailed most of it. She rightly won the golden globe for best actress for that film, and im sure people just knock her because she's madonna. I think the rest of the world gave madonna major credit for that film except the states(the american critics and mdia who love to build a star then knock them down, though it hassn't worked with her). The film itself was a great adaptation of the screen version and also captured the era and mood a hell of a lot better than the original stage version or the current mess here in london.
