I sort of wish this novel went back to the obscurity it had when it was first published & flopped.

A.R.T. has the dates up now: May 25 - July 21, 2024 with opening night set for June 5th.

Single tickets go on sale March 28, 2024.

And now my debate: getting season tix to secure getting to this or waiting allllll tbe way until March. Ugh.

I have faced that dilemma often with A.R.T. but FWIW I have never had a problem getting a ticket for what is perceived to be a hot show in the upcoming season at A.R.T. when I've waited for single tickets to go on sale. I do, however, always jump on as soon as the online sales open. I have also noticed that an A.R.T. production heavily anticipated by musical theater fans at large does not necessarily equate with a heavier subscription sign-up that leaves little or nothing for single ticket sales - no matter the creatives involved. I think, perhaps, this might be the situation for GATSBY. Availability might be slightly more limited for the $30.00 tickets (which I am extremely fond of since the theater is so small) but if you want to pay more - availability is really not a problem.  Again, just based on my experience over a number of years.

Ah.....the sensible approach! Thank you for reassuring me of that!  I've often gotten a season subscription, but I'm not yet sure if I'm interested enough in the rest of the season. Fewer shows, too...and only all or nothing subscriptions.

The production's website https://gatsbybway.com/ has been updated within the past two months to read "Pre-Broadway Performances begin at A.R.T. May 25th."

I wonder how the upcoming Papermill Gatsby's run at the Broadway (assuming recent reports are true) will affect those plans.

Although I was not able to see the Papermill version, I tried to listen to an audio bootleg of it, and it was so bad I had to stop after 30 minutes. I have no doubt it will flop on Broadway, theoretically leaving room for the ART version to transfer a couple seasons later.

Honestly it'd be fun to have both running on Broadway at the same time. It'd be this year's Barbenheimer. I bet many would try to see both on the same trip. Then word of mouth would decide which one is the greater Gatsby and the other would die out quickly. The ads would be fun too, each trying to clarify that this is not the other Gatsby.

It would be petty AF and I'd be living for it!

I agree, I’d see both in one day! These shows seem designed for totally different audiences (one tourists, particularly foreign/teenagers, and one for the “intellectual” theatregoer/a more sophisticated, regional crowd, or fans of Florence). I think there’s room for both, so I don’t really understand the vitriol on either side of the aisle except for people just viscerally hating Paper Mill’s version. That’s fair- I happened to like a lot of the music, but they have a lot of work to do in the coming months. I also love Florence. She has a lot of pressure on her now to make sure the show lives up to the expectations people have set for it, and I’m quite sure she’s up to the task. I hope that this friendly-ish competition makes both creative teams work as hard on their shows as possible.

I think it's fairly unlikely both will be on Broadway at the same time.

I was so disappointed in PM's version; I am rooting SO hard for the ART's.  Also hoping that (assuming the ARTs is truly better) Papermill's doesn't taint the pool for it.

Anyone have intel on this show? I feel like we should, at least, have a Daisy and Gatsby announced by now.

This is going to be so weird.  They really should have postponed Gatsby.  It just feels like the focus is on the broadway Gatsby and now this will be an afterthought.

The latest rumor I saw is that Daisy will be played by Ella Hunt, who happens to be the partner of Thomas Bartlett, co-writer of the score.

There's no use postponing the out-of-town because if there's work to be done between the OOT and Broadway, this buys them some extra time. Artist schedules are tough to wrangle especially with people this notable.

If JeremyEvaGatsby gets poor reviews and limited Tony noms, it will make ChavkinGatsby's team rest easier going into previews in Cambridge. But whether JeremyEvaGatsby does good or bad, that could confuse the audience, scare off investors, and darken the waters ahead of its move to Broadway.

Assuming JeremyEvaGatsby closes sometime in 2024, I wouldn't open ChavkinGatsby on Broadway until the 2025-26 season. The more air between the two, the better, even if JeremyEvaGatsby only runs ~ 2 months. But they'll go when they feel they're ready and when the right Jujamcyn house is available (Roth is producing).

Isn’t Sunset Boulevard supposed to be an open run at the St James?

It wouldn't surprise me if this show is waiting for the 25/26 season. Sunset would have plenty of time to run through the Tonys, take a summer victory lap (assuming it'll win some awards) and then close up shop after Labor Day (or evens stay open through the holidays if Gatsby is waiting until Spring). I'd consider Sunset running in at a barn like St. James for 10-14 months a big success.

Final callbacks for Daisy were last week and as of today they have a choice/offer out.

Ben Levi Ross is the only cast member from the previous reading to continue with the production.

I presume the offer is out to someone the producers want to continue on to Broadway and not just a place holder?
