Thoughts on Abby Mueller in Beautiful? I want to take my mom to see either A Bronx Tale or Beautiful for her birthday but am not sure what word of mouth is about Abby's performance

I haven't seen Abby Mueller on Broadway, but I did see her in the tour a year and a half ago. I thought she was great.

I saw Abby Mueller in SF on tour in the show last year. I can't compare her to anyone else who has played the part, including her sister, but she does a good job.

So do you guys think it is worth it to see her in Beautiful over A Bronx Tale?

Does her mom like the music Carole King wrote for herself and others? If so, she would enjoy Beautiful. She might like it a lot even if she isn't as familiar with King. It's a jukebox musical, charming if a little too predictable for my taste, but it's a pleasant show.

I didn't see A Bronx Tale so I can't comment on it.

Yeah, she likes Carole King's music. I honestly think she would be happy seeing either show, I'm just worried about Abby since i haven't heard anything about her performance.

I've heard nothing but good things about her, it's not unusual for people to stop talking specifics about a show and its cast after the original cast has gone..   It's not my type of show but I enjoyed it more than Bronx Tale.  (But not a lot more.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I haven't seen A Bronx Tale either, but I heard it isn't that good.

I disliked both A Bronx Tale and Beautiful, but Beautiful is slightly better out of the two.

Abby Mueller probably got more attention in the touring production, because the tour was new on the West Coast and because of the fact that she was playing the same part as her sister.

But Abby is an experienced performer in her own right. It's not stunt casting, if that's what concerns you. She does a good job.

Abby is a great Carole King! I have seen her twice on Broadway and she brings something new to the performance every time. She really does give it her all.

I took my mom to see Beautiful and she absolutely loved it. A Bronx Tale is fun, but I think Beautiful is better suited for "take your mom to a show" kind of night.

(PS- Rush for Beautiful is only $40 and most of the time the seats are in the orchestra)

I thought Mueller was great and I really enjoyed Beautiful.  Bronx Tale was the biggest disappointment of the season for me and I wouldn't waste your time seeing it.

In that case I think I'll go with Beautiful.

@talklesswinmore how early do you think I need to get to the theatre to do rush?

Thanks for all of the advice

@bandisepic It really depends. I walk by the theater on my way to work and normally there are only one or two people on line. That's around 8:45/9. Good luck!

I saw Jessie on Broadway and Abby on tour and while I preferred Jesse, I thought Abby was great. She played it similarly but also brought her own spin on it. The people I was with at the tour loved Abby so much they  barely believed me when I said Jessie was even better

I've only seen Abby on tour and have yet to get to see her on Broadway, but I absolutely adored her. I actually disagree that she played anything like Jessie, but she's fantastic and you should see her (and the show).

Saw this on Broadway.  Loved the show. Abby was great.  Her "Natural Woman" was a showstopper. You and your Mom won`t be disappointed.

I saw Jessie in the role 3 times, saw Chilina once and now have seen Abby on tour and on Broadway.  When I saw it, I thought Abby played her a bit more on the awkward side than the others, which I really enjoyed (this is not saying she herself was awkward).  I was not crazy about her on tour, but with the better acoustics and sight-lines of a Broadway house I LOVED her,  Given what you said, I would recommend Beautiful over Bronx Tale (which I very much enjoyed as well)
