1. Why did this need its own thread? Seems like a perfect fit for the grosses thread.
2. Let's let it open and then get back to us. That's kinda how it works. Even though the newbie producer's shortcomings are certainly easy pickin's. (I would note however that, if nothing else, the show will always be known as the Broadway producing debut of the great governor, mayor and DNC chair, Ed Rendell.)

And Christian Borle couldn't do the transfer of Peter and the Starcatcher, yet he did. The show films in New York. We'll see what happens.
I also trust nothing Riedel says anymore. It seems like he's burned all his bridges with sources, because when he's right, we've usually already heard about it here.

I think even if Sweet Charity can be able to transfer this season, I'm sure Sutton would at least like to take a break from that to focus more on Younger.

SMASH filmed the typical network schedule, which begins during summer. That is why he had to leave as soon as he won the Tony. I believe Younger shoots their seasons much earlier in the year, freeing Sutton up for a late summer/fall transfer.

With all the competition this year would the producers really want to open before the spring? I thought it was now expected to come in the fall anyway?

I knew that, I just meant with how many shows are opening this spring the Tony competition is going to be tough. It wouldn't make sense to open this season with how tight the race could be for the leading actress category

the show's advertising is terrible. No word of mouth or appeal. Even with great reviews, I doubt this makes it past New Year's.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I agree that the marketing is pretty dreadful. One of my coworkers thought the show was called "SING" because that's the predominant image in all of their advertising.

VERY true! Their marketing is definitely uninspired and unappealing to say the least. Like many of you have said, I can't see this show running past January.

you mean for Sweet Charity? for all the other categories like scenic design etc for sure. but for the "biggies" like Best Revival / Best Actress ? They seem to have a great shot. it's not like they're competing with the 10 + new musicals

^Are you being sarcastic? I sure hope so. Best actress and best revival are extremely competitive this year.
I think it would be best for Charity to wait it out until next season. I think that it will actually do quite well then.

Im fairly certain Foster herself has said in the past her filming schedule does not conflict with performing in a show in New York.
That being said, I still think it would be smart to transfer in the Fall. But it wouldn't be impossible for a Spring transfer to happen.

As a major fan of Younger, I don't see why should couldn't do both. It's obviously a hit, and if she needs to do shorter days to do accommodate "Sweet Charity" I'd think they'd allow it. And it's not like Younger requires her to do some crazy acting. I could see it working. But, sounds like they want to wait.

Could someone help me understand why they're not making much money? If they're selling 83% of the house, why are they only making 32% of their potential gross? Is the low average ticket price a result of minimal advance sale and the producers turning the remainders over to TKTS, TDF, etc.? Or is there another reason?

you answered your own question LOL. they are discounting heavily / giving out a lot of comps in order to create buzz thanks to their abysmal marketing campaign

I feel bad for this show. I'll be interested to see what the reviews have to say. Maybe if saw it, I'd love it (I've been fully booked so I don't even have the option of going until mid-December) but I guess I'm part of the problem because I keep forgetting that this show even exists.
