When will they likely release the next block of tickets for Natasha, Spike and the Great Comet? Have there been Amex reserved seats?
We'll be visiting in May and would love to snag a couple of prime seats.

Is that the Christopher Durang adaptation? Great Comet - New Block?

Can we please have a serious answer to this question?  I'd like to plan to see Comet when I come up in June but there is still nothing beyond April.  I hope producers don't pull a Hamilton and skyrocket ticket prices after the great reviews.

I am going to New York in late April and have been checking twice a day lately to see if there's a new block of tickets.  My fear is they'll raise the ticket prices too.   We'll just have to keep checking.  I'm figuring they will announce soon now with the reviews and opening.

Until they announce it, there is no telling when they might put more tickets up.   There is no magic knowledge....it's a wait and see.

My guess would be they are currently only selling tickets up to the end of Josh Groban's contract. Maybe the reviews today will inspire them to open a new block of tickets, but since he is the main draw for a lot of Broadway ticket buyers, I think they need to take their time and have a good strategy in place for extending the life of the show without him.

I thought most lead contracts were typically for a year, subject to the show remaining open, of course.  If that's the case, Groban is probably signed through October.  Now that reviews are out and positive, it shouldn't be long before tickets are on sale past April.

...but if he signed a six month contract, his departure date would be in April, right? Considering it's his first Broadway outing (and an unconventional production), it seems reasonable that his initial commitment was limited. By all reports, he's enjoying his gig and has garnered praise, so I would assume an extension is a given (at least through Tony season!)

I doubt he signed for a year.  Six months sounds more likely. I also rather suspect that despite the thrill of being on Broadway and in this innovative production, other commitments would likely prevent him from extending much beyond his original contract.

Right, but this is Josh Groban we're talking about. The rules for "most lead contracts" don't apply here.

I actually don't think there is any "standard" length when it comes to lead contracts. It's whatever the producer is able to negotiate with the star.  Back in the 1950s and 60s it was probably more routine for a star like Mary Martin or Ethel Merman to be signed for a year (or even longer) but its almost unheard of in this day and age for a major star to make a commitment for an entire year. It's one of the reasons often blamed for outrageous ticket prices - because producers now have to recoup a production starring Cate Blanchett or Scarlett Johannson in 4 months.

I seem to recall it was a fairly big deal when the producers of HELLO DOLLY were able to get Bette Midler for an extended contract, and I'm not sure even then she signed for quite an entire year.

Examples from last season - Jennifer Hudson who left after her 6 month contract with The Color Purple. Don't know if Jonathan Groff counts since he was hardly the "lead", but he did the same (Hamilton). Emma Stone (Cabaret). Darren Criss, Neil Patrick Harris (Hedwig).

I'd be very surprised if he wasn't contracted through the Tony Awards.....sounds like he'll be nominated!

Just looking up tickets and picked two random dates in July and one in August...

All three said Josh Groban would be absent from the performance...

That's because he most likely only signed on for six months and will not be in the show come July & August. But having just seen the show last night, I can assure you that you won't be missing much by not seeing him. His role as Pierre borders on supporting (featured), if you ask me. Although I had mixed feelings about the show itself, if it interests you, and you're not just seeing it to see Josh, I'd urge you to see it with or without him. The theater and the staging are spectacular!

If he's gone in April - counting rehearsals - that would be an 8 month contract. He'd be gone and his departure announced before nomination season - wonder if that would impact his chances. Good news is the show is the thing here - it's not like Bette leaving Dolly.

It says he's performing through July 2 on Telecharge. They also list a few scheduled absences in April, May, and June.

Sweet! Am very excited! Have been watching and waiting for the past month for the next block to go on sale. Booked first row mezz tickets today! AND Josh Groban looks like he will still be part of the production on our date, so a nice bonus!!
