As good of a singer as Sierra is, it seems that Christine is the only role she can play consistently. Her performance in School of Rock (a VERY different kind of part) wasn't exactly well-received. I wish I could see her tackle meatier roles, but Ariel was about as close as she's gotten...
I don't really mind, as I do think she's great in the role. And at least she's doing it in a variety of places, so even if she's in the same role, she's in a new theatre, culture, new people around..
Well Sierra is great as Christine, and she enjoys playing the part.
I don't see anything particularly depressing about it. .
"
I don't know that is call her a great Christine. She certainly has a great voice. Her acting in the role is rather blasé.
I saw her her perform the role opposite Norm Lewis, and I felt something was lacking. This could come from having performed the role for so long. The energy just wasn't there.
I know the role doesn't offer the actresses playing it very much to go on, but I have seen an actress or two give the role a bit of depth that I did not see in Sierra's performance. I also acknowledge that it is possible I caught her on an off day.
Even though the sound is not good, I can understand what she sings. She sometimes has a strong accent, I hope she's still working on it (some people at Mogador said she spoke French better than some native, well... they can't criticize her now) because the audience won't be kind to her and Gardar if their diction is not perfect.
There was fire overnight at the theater where this show is supposed to open next month. I would add the Broadway.com link, but I'm on phone and it's annoying.
They don't know what it means for the opening yet - it might have to be postponed if the repairs needed will take long. There was a fireman hurt while putting it out, hope they make a speedy recovery.
