Were there less tourists this summer?? It seems like nothing got a bump.
Poor fun home. I hope it does better in its final weeks.

I am considering how problematic it is that The Color Purple (which is one of my top 3 favorite shows Broadway right now, don't get me wrong) devotes a ton of its marketing and PR to Erivo, Headley, and Brooks' faces. I know Headley was out for 2 or 3 performances last week, and I believe that's why it had such a sudden and precipitous drop.
Also, happy that Les Miz is totally killing it in its final weeks.
I wonder if the producers of The Humans are questioning their move. Close to Sold Out in a small house may be better than (already) only 3/4 at a larger theatre. I am guessing that some of those early-in-the-week performances are already only half filled.
I am disgusted with CATS. I will never get that show.
I wonder if it will help business for some other longer running shows when Neverland, AAIP, Fiddler, Fun Home close? Fewer to pick from for awhile?
Jarethan, as all of those shows close, there are several new productions opening this fall. The number of theatergoing options will remain high, just with different shows from which to choose.
The Humans will be the only play on Broadway (albeit briefly) after Curious Incident and Act of God close. I don't think Scott Rudin is questioning anything.

That wouldn't surprise me if it's actresses not being present that's causing a huge drop. I haven't seen it yet, but in my research and deciding what to see when I go to Broadway over Labor Day Weekend, almost all the people who have been expressing the need to see The Color Purple have made it seem like the big draw to that show is specifically its cast and the 3 big names you mentioned, and that it wouldn't be as worth it to see in a tour or with a different cast.
Thankfully Labor Day weekend is too close for me to need to worry about any shows cancelling before I get to Broadway, right? I do look forward to seeing it from what I've heard, and it's sad to hear that it dropped so heavily.
Has the humans recouped? I could have missed it. If it has, it shouldn't be too bad.

Every week we keep on bringing up Kinky Boots and every week the thread is dedicated to hogan arguing that kinky boots and company have a logical reason to stay open. How about something new?
On Your Feet! is literally perfect tour material. I have zero doubt that a touring company would be playing to sold-out houses. I just think it's long run its course on Broadway.

Humans is doing fine and will cover the relatively modest move cost that was lubricated by the landlord. The move was not volitional. The alternative was closing.
How big of an impact does the Olympics typically have on Broadway? I would imagine that quite a lot of potential ticket buyers would opt to stay in and watch the games on TV.
The Color Purple doesn't look much better for this week. Just yesterday, I purchased 2 discount tickets for Weds nights performance. LOTS to choose from, sadly. I got two seats on the aisle, 5 rows back.
I saw this with JHud with my daughter and can't wait to see HH with my son.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
The producers of the Jersey Boys, must have a decision to make soon, it is also taking up a prime theatre. This show could easily transfer to off Broadway.

I think it's two very different audiences. I'm curious, too...if anyone has data. I wouldn't think the Olympics would matter, especially in this age of time-shifting.

I think JB would make a fantastic and long-running tenant of Stage42 or NWS.
Stage42 is such a KILLER venue. Great site lines, big bathrooms. It's a really great venue that I wish they could find a long running tenant for. I mean, the backstage is spacious. State of the art, etc. It just sucks that it sits empty half the time. I mean it's not that far off the map. PH and Theatre Row seem to be doing fine, and Signature draws crowds. I know Stage 42 is commercial, but still.
Surprised The Humans hasn't recouped. I don't quite understand producing, but how much money would it have cost to move it from non-profit Off-Broadway to for-profit Broadway? I mean it ran awhile and never seemed to lose money. And playing to 3/4 a house isn't bad at all. Look at Phantom, it doesn't sell-out every performance and it's been running for 20 years.
